Inside Fisherman’s Cabin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A while back, a\u00a0guest staying at\u00a0Woodsman’s cabin\u00a0commented that\u00a0our bright red bedspread was the same Ikea model as she had at home.\u00a0 She’d just been to visit a friend in Australia who\u00a0owned the same Ikea lamp as her.\u00a0We both\u00a0decided right there and then that this global decorating thing should stop and that we’d never darken their stylish, Swedish doors again.\u00a0 I have to admit that I have lapsed on a couple of occasions since then, but I’m determined to put it behind me and search for more original alternatives.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our cabins’ decor is inspired somewhat by my childhood fascination with\u00a0TV programmes like\u00a0Heidi and Little House on the Prairie.\u00a0 I like the idea of simplicity, a place for everything and everything in its place.\u00a0 I’m also a sucker for\u00a0a lofty\u00a0bedroom you reach via a steep ladder and\/or a\u00a0hatch.\u00a0 Anyway, I didn’t get to watch these programmes\u00a0often, because my big brother would insist on watching Whacky Races or something, (which, secretly, was fine with me).\u00a0 Something must have stuck though,\u00a0because I\u00a0find I have a weakness for Vichy checks and polka dots\u00a0when fashion may dictate that\u00a0I should be buying the cool,\u00a0taupe or grey alternative.<\/p>\n

Cabin chic or cabin kitsch? It’s a fine line and I regularly veer over the edge! \u00a0Luckily, we have a rich source of inspiration in the form of the many brocantes and ‘vide greniers’ that take place regularly here in timewarp France.<\/p>\n

There’re plenty of hidden gems in amongst many items of dubious taste,\u00a0and I’ve recently discovered that if I pop into my favourite brocante\u00a0after lunch, when\u00a0Le Patron appears to have partaken\u00a0of a\u00a0few\u00a0glasses of red, he’s much more amenable to a good deal.\u00a0 Let the shopping commence….<\/p>\n
